Although rural communities face many hardships, very few are prepared to take action to address them since poverty, insecurity and the difficulty involved in doing so hold them back. These organic leaders are often respected in their communities however often lack proper guidance and structure to mobilize communities. This fellowship supports tribal women and men, typically from poor households, who have already shown potential leadership qualities but need some help to mobilize their community.

The selected Fellows are supported for a period of two years for which they are provided with a Fellowship amount of Rs.25,000. They are also given targeted support in the form of learning workshops, peer learning and guidance from experienced field workers. They also have mentors who guide them and help them handle the issues strategically. Therefore, this fellowship gives these leaders the necessary push and equips them with the right knowledge to address issues and mobilize their communities. |

A variety of community-specific issues are addressed and the capacity of the community to address other issues in the future will be enhanced. Communities will feel more encouraged to take responsibility for bringing about social change. |
The role of community leaders is extremely important as otherwise the poor often just remain mere spectators of processes affecting their lives and expect that the State will solve their problems.
