Project duration: 1 Year
Project's focus area: Providing access to basic education for boys and girls, as a stepping stone to alleviate poverty

Students of poor coastal areas of Kerala, India, need to go to school in remote villages. Areas are steeped in poverty and at the mercy of repeated sea erosion . School is too far from villages to walk each day barefoot with heavy bags of books, making school attendance difficult to the point of jeopardizing students’ future. Bicycles will have a strong impact by helping poor boys and girls go to school regularly. Students will own their bike after completing school.

Buying and distributing 300 bicycles: 150 Herald Thriller bikes for boys; 150 Lady Bird bikes for girls. Students contribute Rs500 each (US$12). Project will ensure qualitative changes in people’s life and enhance village integrated development. |
By helping 300 poor students (50% boys; 50% girls) finish high school and own a bicycle after graduation, the project will provide access to basic education to all the poor students in the selected area and village. |
The program for the students, irrespective of caste and creed, will help raise the educational standard of the people as well as the income of the families.
