Project duration: 1 Year
Project's focus area: healthcare, education, home reconstruction as a stepping stone to sustainable productive paid work
As relief gives way to the long and difficult process of reconstruction, project is focusing on specific actions for about 400 people to rebuild their life in Chennai and in five tsunami affected villages: two at Challanam/Karunagapally and Edavanakad/Pallithodu near Kochi, Kerala and three at Ambedkar Nagar, Kuppankulam and Pethankuppam near Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. God-parenthood has a strong impact by helping poor children go back to school and receive medical care on a case by case basis.
1. Providing household utensils, clean water, food supplements, clothes, medical care, school supplies, sewing machines and fishing nets. 2. Repairing and rebuilding homes. 3. Protecting/sponsoring children and helping 25 girls finish high school. |
Positive long-term impact is the result of prompt action/funding: when a safe environment is re-created with basic needs--proper housing, clean water, health-- 400 people will live normally again; children will go to school, key for the future. |
