Project's focus area: Providing scholarships to underprivileged children, enabling access to education and a better future

A $1,100 endowment can provide scholarship for one child per year. Each sponsor creates an endowment with Grameen Shikkha (GS) and can name the scholarship, specify the region, gender, field of studies, duration, and other particulars of the beneficiaries. Students for these scholarships are selected according to the instructions of the sponsors. Students can even be from families that are not Grameen Bank members. Sponsors receive a report on each recipient of the scholarship each year.

Grameen Shikkha selects bright poor children to support with scholarships and monitors their progress throughout the year. Donors receive annual reports detailing academic successes and other information about the beneficiaries of their endowments. |

|
The project expects to keep bright children in schools where poor families, without this financial support, would otherwise have engaged them in menial labor jobs. Of the 20 scholarship winners who took the 10th grade exam in 2004, 15 scored A's. |

"Talent must be nurtured. There was no one to nurture my talents until Grameen Shikkha came forward with their scholarship. I scored A’s in SSC because of the support from Grameen Shikkha."
- Nargis Akhtar, helped by Grameen Shikkha to stay in school
