GlobalGiving connects social entrepreneurs and grassroots organizations with individuals, corporations, and institutions that have an interest in supporting and fueling significant social impact. Since 2002, GlobalGiving has helped nonprofits and social entrepreneurs in 130 countries grow their communities of donors and volunteers to raise more than $100 million from more than 360,000 individual and corporate donors.

GlobalGiving.org, an online marketplace for international grassroots charities, is looking for a Unmarketing Intern. We're looking for someone that wants to help us push our brand, voice, ideas, and most importantly our users forward. The Unmarketing Intern reports to the Senior Unmarketing Manager and the Champion for Customer Bliss. The intern will support our communications and customer service efforts as part of our social media, marketing, and unmarketing strategy. He or she will help maintain the drumbeat for our "Tribe."

Possible tasks and learning objectives include:

  • Learn and Improve strategy: Learn about our unique unmarketing strategy, and bring your expertise and ideas to the table to help us refine it.
  • Tell great stories: Learn how to apply the principles of storytelling to social networks to engage users, followers, and fans.
  • Write compelling content: Draft effective marketing materials and proposals that will facilitate outreach and unmarketing efforts.
  • Measure: Learn how to measure social media effectiveness, email results, and other modern marketing channels. Suggest new metrics and data points GlobalGiving could consider collecting.
  • Copyedit: Help us maintain our style. AP style, that is.
  • Develop our Voice: Learn how to ensure a consistent "voice" (tone, brevity, diction, etc.) in all communications.
  • Help us say thank you: Collaborate with the Product team develop a better way to thank our incredible donors.
  • Connect with users: Provide assistance to customers via email, phone, and social media as needed.

In addition to the hands-on learning you will gain from the tasks above, you will also benefit from a week-long training program on nonprofit operations, international aid and philanthropy. This training will be supplemented by regular coaching from management and mentorship opportunities with senior leadership. Such opportunities include lunch with the Founder and President, a brown bag career development session led by the CEO of The Whittle Group, and an opportunity to present and receive input from the Executive team on your college or grad-level thesis. You may also use your internship opportunity to learn one of 24 foreign languages at your own pace and for free. And the list goes on…

Required Qualifications

We ask that you come hungry for a great experience, ready to learn and to grow. Strong preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate solid analytical skills, superior time management and multi-tasking ability, great attention to detail with uncompromising quality of work, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Oh, and we also want you to feel as passionately as we do about our mission. Recent college graduates and students currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, international studies, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
