Project Internship (Unpaid)

GlobalGiving directly connects social entrepreneurs and grassroots organizations around the world with individuals, corporations, and institutions that have an interest in funding projects that fuel positive social, economic, and environmental change.

The candidate should have an interest in international development, and be eager to learn about how GlobalGiving can better serve social entrepreneurs around the world by improving their access to financial resources, educational tools, and existing networks in the international aid sector. He or she will work with GlobalGiving's Project Team to grow our network of project organizations. Knowledge of the international development and philanthropy sectors, analysis, and strong knowledge of online communities and international NGO networks as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Possible tasks include:

  • Identifying, corresponding with, and vetting grassroots organizations around the world to join the GlobalGiving network.
  • Grant-making support to conduct due diligence on potential nonprofit partners from over 75 countries
  • Supporting the Project Team's activities during the Open Challenges, and providing supporting to the participants of these Challenges
  • Helping to manage the catalogue of development projects on the site, including review and approval of projects and project reports
  • Collecting and recording of data on partner organizations
  • Communicating with partner organizations when reports are due and when their proposals are fully funded
  • Investigating tools to help project leaders execute their fundraising strategies and maximize donations for their projects

Because GlobalGiving sits at the intersection of the corporate, foundation, and NGO worlds, you will gain from significant exposure to all three sectors and will learn about on-the-ground development work. During the course of this internship, you will have access to substantive and valuable opportunities to learn international grant making processes, engage with social entrepreneurs located around the world, get trained in online fundraising practices, and work with the GlobalGiving team to identify areas of improvement in partners' fundraising strategies.

As part of your internship experience, you will also benefit from the opportunity to see an array of development organizations ranging in size, capacity, and focus. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work closely with GlobalGiving staff in your day-to-day operations including learning opportunities through brown-bags, conversations with development practitioners and time with the executive team at GlobalGiving, while gaining skills in organization and cross-cultural understanding.

We're accepting rolling applications for project interns. Unpaid internships being in August/September, January, and May to coincide with fall, spring, and summer semesters at most universities.
