GlobalGiving is looking for a passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic individual or a small group to travel throughout South America for at least 6 months in spring 2013 to:
As a field intern in South America, you will spend 6 months in the region meeting with local change makers who provide job training to indigenous women, offer pediatric healthcare in rural communities, teach local communities to restore the Brazilian rainforest, and more! You will act as representatives of GlobalGiving, conducting thorough site visits of GlobalGiving's partner organizations, ranging in size, capacity, and focus. You will work closely with local organizations and to identify areas for improvement in their fundraising.
You will have the chance to help us spread the word about GlobalGiving in South America by reaching out to organizations organizing informational workshops about online fundraising and GlobalGiving.
In addition to seeing world-changing work, the In-the-Field Program also gives you the flexibility to see the sites! Take a day or two off to hike Machu Picchu, explore Argentine glaciers, or tour the Galapagos Islands.
Selected interns will participate in mandatory 4-week training in January and February at GlobalGiving's office in Washington, DC, where you will learn how to: conduct site visits and evaluations; analyze partners' online fundraising and areas of improvement; recognize potential for collaboration; and more. You will work closely with GlobalGiving's DC staff in preparation for your trip, planning site visits, workshops, travel, and accommodations, while gaining skills in organization and cross-cultural understanding.
Upon returning to the U.S., you will present your findings and experience to the GlobalGiving staff.
This position is unpaid and program participants are expected to fund their entire trip including on-ground travel and accommodations.
GlobalGiving will reimburse expenses for flights to and from the region for up to $1,500 and travel medical insurance. GlobalGiving will also provide a small communications stipend, training, office support, and workshop funding.
