GlobalGiving is looking for a passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic individual to travel throughout Southern Africa for 6 months in Spring 2014 to:
As a field intern in Southern Africa, you will spend 6 months in the region meeting with local change makers who provide critical healthcare to rural communities, empower female community leaders, offer environmentally friendly transportation to rural populations, and more! You will act as a representative of GlobalGiving, conducting thorough site visits of GlobalGiving's partner organizations, ranging in size, capacity, and focus. You will work closely with local organizations and to identify potential for improvement in areas such as fundraising.
You will have the chance to help us spread the word about GlobalGiving in Southern Africa by reaching out to organizations that would be a good match for our fundraising site and organizing informational workshops.
In addition to seeing world-changing work, the In-the-Field Program also gives you the flexibility to see the sites! Take a day or two (or five) off to explore sand dunes in Namibia , go on Safari in South Africa, or snorkel off the coast of Mozambique. Your trip is in your hands.
Selected interns will participate in mandatory 3-4 week training in January and February at GlobalGiving's office in Washington, DC, where you will learn how to: conduct site visits and evaluations; analyze partners' online fundraising and areas of improvement; recognize potential for collaboration; and more. You will work closely with GlobalGiving's DC staff in preparation for your trip, planning site visits, workshops, travel, and accommodations, while gaining skills in organization and cross-cultural understanding.
Upon returning to the U.S., you will present your findings and experience to the GlobalGiving staff.
This position is unpaid and program participants are expected to fund their entire trip including on-ground travel and accommodations.
GlobalGiving will reimburse expenses for flights to and from the region for up to $1,500 and offer reimbursement for travel medical insurance up to $400. GlobalGiving will also provide a small stipend for reimbursable travel and communications expenses up to $1,750, in addition to training, office support, and workshop funding. In-the-Field interns may be invited to extend their work with GlobalGiving as a paid office intern following their six months in the field.
