Field Internship in Mexico - Summer 2013
Conduct site visits and workshops in Mexico for the GlobalGiving Foundation. Gain valuable in-the-field experience with GlobalGiving while having the adventure of a lifetime!
About GlobalGiving: GlobalGiving connects organizations from all over the world with donors who can support their work. GlobalGiving's non-profit partners address issues in education, health, women's empowerment, microfinance, environmental sustainability and more.
GlobalGiving is looking for a team of two passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals to travel throughout Mexico in summer of 2013 (mid-May through mid-August) to:
As a field intern in Mexico, you and your teammate will spend 8-10 weeks in the country meeting with local change makers who provide training and support to rural farmers, education for working children in Chiapas, skills to help local leaders preserve the environment, and more! You will act as representatives of GlobalGiving, conducting thorough site visits of GlobalGiving's partner organizations, ranging in size, capacity, and focus. You will work closely with local organizations to identify potential for improvement in areas such as fundraising.
You will have the chance to help us spread the word about GlobalGiving in Mexico by reaching out to organizations that are a good match for our fundraising site and organizing informational workshops.
In addition to seeing world-changing work, the In the Field Program gives you the flexibility to see the sites! Take a day or two off to explore the Mayan ruins, hike the Copper Canyon, or relax at one of Mexico's beautiful beaches.
Selected interns will participate in mandatory 3-week training in May and June at GlobalGiving's office in Washington, DC, where you will learn how to: conduct site visits and evaluations; analyze partners' online fundraising and areas of improvement; recognize potential for collaboration; and more. You will work closely with GlobalGiving's DC staff in preparation for your trip, planning site visits, workshops, travel, and accommodations, while gaining skills in organization and cross-cultural understanding.
Upon returning to the U.S., you will present your findings and experience to the GlobalGiving staff.
This position is unpaid and program participants are expected to fund their entire trip including airfare, travel, and accommodations. GlobalGiving will provide training, office support, travel medical insurance, a minimal stipend for communications costs, and workshop funding.
