Provide one-on-one fundraising consultation and training to one or more small, grassroots organizations in Kenya and/or Uganda on behalf of the GlobalGiving Foundation! GlobalGiving is an online fundraising organization that provides fundraising training, support, tools, and promotions for 1300 organizations around the world. GlobalGiving's non-profit partners address issues in education, health, women's empowerment, microfinance, environmental sustainability and more.
Many of our partners are small, locally based organizations that require additional, hands-on training in fundraising.
GlobalGiving is looking for a passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic intern to travel to Kenya and/or Uganda in summer 2013 (mid-May through mid-August) to provide direct support to one or more of GlobalGiving's partners. The selected intern will:
As a field intern, you will spend 8-10 weeks in Kenya and/or Uganda learning about the organization(s), meeting with members of the staff, board, and community, and becoming closely acquainted with the organization(s)'s work. We are in the process of selecting the host organization(s). GlobalGiving has more than a hundred partners that work in Kenya and Uganda working on a wide variety of projects including keeping girls in school in Kibera, fighting corruption with sports, equipping HIV/AIDS infected women with the life skills they need to live longer, and so much more!
In addition to seeing world-changing work, this position gives you the flexibility to see the sites! Take a day or two off to raft the Nile in Uganda or go on safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya.
Selected interns will participate in mandatory 3-week training in May and June at GlobalGiving's office in Washington, DC, where you will learn the fundamentals of online fundraising and strategies for successful fundraising on GlobalGiving. You will work closely with GlobalGiving's DC staff in preparation for your trip.
Upon returning to the U.S., you will present your findings and experience to the GlobalGiving staff.
This position is unpaid and program participants are expected to fund their entire trip including airfare, travel, and accommodations. GlobalGiving will provide a small stipend for communications costs, travel medical insurance, and office support.
