As our lead designer, you'll work closely with our team to overhaul the design and user experience of our philanthropic marketplace. You will help our team become more conscious of design, teach us best practices, and challenge us to improve our brand and user experience across all aspects of our organization. This position is based in our Washington DC office and reports to our Chief Product Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce graphic design for digital and print media, including web, email, video, social media, presentation, print ads, brochures, and more.
  • Overhaul the GlobalGiving brand and then become a caring steward of that brand.
  • Concept and execute strong digital design for desktop and mobile.
  • Participate in every aspect of the product development process, from creating wireframes to designing entire interaction flows.
  • Challenge developers and other teams to solve problems with design and maintain a cohesive and consistent experience.
  • Create amazing graphics in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Develop creative approach for outreach materials such as toolkits, brand story & guidelines, presentation templates, infographics, and reports.
  • Partner with colleagues to help design high-end, engaging webinars and presentations
  • Communicate and manage relationships with outside freelance agencies on special projects as needed.
  • Prepare and execute final art files for outside printing, art service and/or other agency firms.
  • Assist with usability testing and iterate on interface designs based on feedback.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of graphic design best practices and the state of web design, sharing knowledge and implications with the rest of the team.
Required Qualifications
  • 2 to 4 years experience in professional graphic design, preferably with web sites
  • Master of Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign - and knowledge of how to turn these designs into working web pages and print-ready brand collateral.
  • Passionate about owning and advancing our visual identity across a variety of media, including web, email, print, t-shirts, signs, and more.
  • Up-to-date knowledge and ability to apply user interface design and user experience principles to web design.
  • Ability to manage external design contractors to ensure that we have a consistent look-and-feel and that projects stay on time and on budget.
  • Vision of how different aspects of the web site fit together into a cohesive user experience and what elements need to be changed, added, or removed to improve the experience.
  • Create and edit webpages using HTML and CSS templates within a grid framework.
  • Sense of humor, belief in our core values, and desire to change the world.

This is a full time position in Washington, D.C. Salary range will depend on skill and experience. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
