Take action with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and help save our oceans! Choose one of these five projects to have a direct impact on marine wildlife conservation. Thanks to you, sea turtles will hatch safely, baby coral fish will grow, mangroves will be planted, and the oceans will be protected.
The world's oceans face an uncertain future: overfishing, excessive resource extraction, pollution, rising seas, and warming waters have contributed to the loss of a third of the world's coral reefs, 90% of the ocean's top predators, and the collapse of its most productive fisheries. Only 1% of the world's oceans is protected. The ocean feeds over a billion people, harbors massive biodiversity, and is its largest active carbon sink - we must protect our marine environment.
This project offers practical ways to positively impact marine wildlife and ecosystems. From providing sustainable fishing gear to avoid juvenile by-catch and full protection for sea turtle nests, to planting mangroves to restore marine ecosystems and enforcing laws to protect fragile marine areas, WCS implements concrete, locally-based solutions to the global problem of ocean conservation and employs passionate marine conservationists to deliver change.
Over the long term this project will strengthen coastal fisheries, create and help enforce new Marine Protected Areas, and ensure the recovery of threatened marine species, while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities around the globe. Each of these five projects will directly help reverse the trends of ocean depletion and degradation that have plagued our seas for the past century.
